To use the PC-ACE Online Software Update feature: ATTENTION: We have recently enhanced security on the Online Software Update (OSU) server. If you are running an older PC-ACE release, up through and including the PC-ACE 3.1 (July 2016) release, you must manually install the following update to the OSU client module before you will be able to update to the latest PC-ACE release. Download and run the OSU client module update from ... https://pcaceosu.abilitynetwork.com/pcacebld/misc/osuupdt.exe No installation password is required. You will receive confirmation that the OSU client module update installed successfully. You may then continue with these instructions. IMPORTANT: It is strongly recommended that you perform a complete PC-ACE database backup before attempting this or any program update. This backup is for safety purposes only, and should NOT be restored after the update completes. (1) Execute PC-ACE. The online update process requires exclusive program use. For networked installations, no other users may be accessing the program while an update is being performed. (2) Select the main menu "Help" and "Online Software Update" items. Login when prompted and click the "Yes" button to acknowledge that a backup has been secured. PC-ACE will be closed and the Online Software Update program will be launched automatically. (3) Simply click the PC-ACE Online Software Update program's "Update Software" button to proceed. The update program will first download and install a newer version of itself, if one is available. It will then proceed to download and install all applicable updates. (4) When the update process has completed, click the "Exit" button to close the Online Software Update program. This update will bring your existing PC-ACE installation up to the current release level. For networked installations, each client workstation user will be prompted to run the client update program the next time PC-ACE is executed on that workstation. Additional Troubleshooting and Usage Notes: * If the "Online Software Update" item is not available from the main "Help" menu, please perform the following one-time activation steps: (1) Close PC-ACE. If this is a networked installation, make sure all users have exited the program. (2) Click the Windows "Start" button and select the "Run" option. Enter the following command in the Open text box... c:\winpcace\enabauto.exe pro32 Substitute the drive letter where PC-ACE was installed (if different than "c:"). For network installations, this command must specify the shared server drive letter. Click the "OK" button to execute the command. This will silently enable the Online Software Update feature. * If you receive the error message ... "You are not authorized to perform the 'Software Update' function" ... you will need to enable the "Perform On-Line Software Updates" setting in the PC-ACE "Add/Update User" function. Remember to log out or close PC-ACE after making any permission setting changes. The new settings will be recognized the next time you log into PC-ACE. * If you successfully launch the Online Software Update program and connect to our server, but subsequently receive the warning message ... "You are not currently authorized to receive online updates." ... then you have not been setup in our access control database. Send an e-mail to List-Support@ABILITYNetwork.com indicating the date and approximate time of your update attempt. You will be added to the access control database and notified via e-mail when you have been activated. * The release notes for each update are displayed in the Online Software Update viewer window while the update is downloading. The user may review these notes during the update or after the update has completed. The release notes may be printed by clicking the "Print Release Notes" button after the update has completed. * The main "View" menu provides access to update history and activity log information. Select the "View Update History" menu item to view a chronological list of all updates that have been applied using the Online Software Update program. The release notes for each update are available for viewing. Select the "View Activity Log" menu item to view the Online Software Update activity log. This log can be helpful in diagnosing update problems that may occur.
