We use ABILITY CAREWATCH at the Village Care Center, mainly for tracking quality measures and improving the quality of care for Care Center residents. As a large facility, managing and tracking quality data across different units and different care types is challenging. With CAREWATCH, we empower each unit’s nurse manager to set goals specific to their resident populations. For example, for memory care, it might be reducing the use of psychotics, while for transitional care, it might be decreasing the number of falls.
CAREWATCH helps us identify areas of improvements based on the specific needs of each unit, versus a broad interpretation that might not really get at the critical issues in each area. When we can track and manage quality measures at a local level, based on the goals, challenges and case mix of the patient population in that unit, we can focus more on the things that will have the biggest impact on their quality of life. That makes a big difference in the care we deliver.

Prior to ABILITY CAREWATCH, all of our patient data reports were created manually. It was mind-numbing, and the number of people and individual tasks need to compile, organize and make sense of patient data was impossible. With CAREWATCH, it was like in The Wizard of Oz movie, where suddenly everything was in color. We could see things that we couldn’t see before. It changed everything about how we perceived managing quality measures and our organization. Using CAREWATCH across the Village Care Center helped us improve and then maintain strong star ratings consistently over the last 10 years.
